This is my statement: I believe in humanity. I believe that people are naturally good, and that love prevails over hate in the vast majority of circumstances. But some humans take an unnatural turn with their lives and acquire cold hearts. Cold hearts lead to evil deeds on rare occasions, such as the Sandy Hook shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. Why do we focus more on the terrible stories instead of the beautiful ones? Some noted that the media is partially to blame, and I agree. First of all, why will the killer, Adam Lanza, become a household name because he is a monster of a man that massacred innocent school children and teachers? People deserve to remember the names of the victims instead of revolving the news stories around a disturbed individual. Then the next disturbed individual with a cold heart will hop on the opportunity for their claim to fame and shoot a larger amount of victims in a more sick, twisted way. I believe that we need to raise awareness for mental illness, which is often associated with these types of killers, and if we know people who seem to have thoughts that aren’t incorporating love we must get them the necessary help, perhaps even medication, so they do not acquire a permanently cold heart. Yes, I believe in love. I found this and wanted to conclude my statement with the following quote: An old Cherokee told his grandson: “My son, there’s a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego. The other is good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, and truth.” The boy thought about it and asked: “Grandfather, which wolf wins?” The old man quietly replied: “The one you feed.”
This morning I spent some time in deep thought. Of course some feelings and ideas cannot be properly described, but these are my words that I have created as a form of advice or at least a starting point for your own deep thought perhaps: “Act optimistic. Be bold. Aspire to make an impact in others. Inspire strangers to become friends. Dream for a positive change in the world around us. Align your
actions with your dreams. Realize there is no right or wrong; there are many perspectives. Do not judge because one person sees the same idea differently than another. Hatred is meant for those who cannot compromise. Love is freedom. Life is liberty. Happiness is hope. Believe that a smile is more than an expression. Understand that living is precious so create your own path. Remember we are all brothers and sisters in humanity and every second enjoyed is an eternity of time well spent.”
The London 2012 Olympic Games will begin this Friday with the opening ceremonies. I love the Olympics. It’s a time where the nations of the world come together in peace. Citizens root for their own countries with pride. Medals are awarded to athletes who have broken records & spent their lives training to accomplish the physical feats they can do with such grace. I’m an athlete, but an olympian goes above and beyond that category. The dedication that it takes to push yourself to become the best in the world is so impressive. May the Games prove to be an inspiration for all of us.
Life…Accept differences. Be kind. Count your blessings. Dream. Express thanks. Forgive. Give freely. Harm no one. Imagine more. Jettison anger. Keep confidences. Love truly. Master something. Nurture hope. Open your mind. Pack lightly. Quell rumors. Reciprocate. Seek wisdom. Touch hearts. Understand. Value truth. Win graciously. Xeriscape. Yearn for peace. Zealously support a worthy cause.
▂ ▃ ▅ ▆ █ This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. All emotions are beautiful when you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people; we are united in our differences. Ask the next person to see what their passion is and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them…so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and wear your passion. █ ▆ ▅ ▃ ▂
A Message To Humanity
"I’m sorry but I don’t want to be an Emperor – that’s not my business – I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls – has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than machinery we need humanity; More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The airplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me I say “Do not despair”. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took from the people, will return to the people and so long as men die [now] liberty will never perish… Soldiers – don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you – who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men. You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don’t hate – only the unloved hate. Only the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers – don’t fight for slavery, fight for liberty. In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written ” the kingdom of God is within man ” – not one man, nor a group of men – but in all men – in you, the people. You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy let’s use that power – let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfil their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise. Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers – in the name of democracy, let us all unite!”
As many of us have barbecues, days at the beach, and other forms of enjoyment over this three day weekend, let’s actually take the time to remember what Memorial Day is all about. This federal holiday, in my opinion, is one of the most important because it’s a day of remembrance for our nation’s fallen heroes. Every single brave sole that puts their life on the line to preserve the freedom of our great nation has my utmost respect. I salute the members of the United States military who never made it back home, along with the other troops that have the courage to fight for our country in general. Also, I think it is strange that people say “happy Memorial Day”. Is death, as valiant as dying for America may be, a happy occurrence? Instead, have an honorable Memorial Day remembering the heroes that have died in the name of the stars and stripes.
I’d always heard your entire life flashes before your eyes a second before you die. First of all, that one second isn’t a second at all. It stretches on forever, like an ocean of time. For me, it will be lying on the beach, feeling the sun warm my entire body. And the walk home from school in mother nature’s woods. Or waking up early in the morning, and the rewarding cup of coffee that accompanies that. And listening to music that relaxes my mind. I guess I could be pretty pissed off about dying when the time comes, but it will be hard to stay mad when there is so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst. Then I remember to breathe easy, and stop trying to hold on to it. It then flows through me like rain, and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my young life so far. You have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m sure. But don’t worry. You will someday. *See the beauty in the world, even in the simplest things. Most people don’t realize how significant their everyday routines are in life until they are too late.
Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. After all, the purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love color the most. Strive to see the world in color!
Everyone seems to want summer. They post, talk, and even dream about it excessively. But rarely do people address WHY they want the summertime. I look forward to summer because that is my time of pure freedom. There is no designated schedule that regulates my everyday routines such as in the school year. Summer is perfect for relaxation. Everyone has stress in their lives, and sometimes a long break is a valuable way to calm the storm of life. Memories will be made, laughs will be shared, and opportunities will arise all in the few months we have off from school. I, along with the majority, am excited for this approaching summer of 2012. It will be legendary. And when it arrives, remember to cherish every moment.
